Meet retired PNP member, SPO2 Rolando A. Gurrobat, who imparted a valuable legacy to his children – a quality education that they deserve.
SPO2 Gurrobat came from a poor family in the island province of Catanduanes. During his early years, he was enlisted in the Philippine Constabulary and later got absorbed into the Philippine National Police. In one of his assignments, he met Erlinda Balando of Samar Province, who became his wife and the mother of his five children. As a sole provider for the family, he always made sure that the basic needs of his children are met.
While his four children were still in college,budgeting his income was so tight that he resorted to AMWSLAI
and availed of its loans. He said that he was lucky because his children were all scholars of prestigious schools in Manila and Legazpi. All he needed to provide were their allowances and miscellaneous expenses.
His firstborn, Cherryl, took up Journalism at Bicol University. His second child, Charlyn, enrolled in the University of the Philippines – Diliman as Materials Engineering student, Ma. Cielo, his third child, studied Economics at the University of the Philippines-Los Baños and his fourth child, Rolando Jr., took up Internal Audit at the Far Eastern University.
Today, all four of them are successful in their respective fields. Cherryl is now an Executive Producer of GMA 7 Network. Charlyn is now an Engineer who works as a Manager in International Orthopedic Company. Ma. Cielo is presently a Senior Analyst in a private company while Rolando Jr. is an Internal Auditor in Accenture. His youngest is a Grade 5 student.
